there was a cashier

I represented team Masum for softball in the ING National Open Softball Championship...I was the worst among the best. By God's grace I was selected to represent Masum<-- Malaysia Local Universities.

I didn't play as the main players, just a reserve. The coaches were more interested in winning than any other thing. Even when we were leading 18-0, the coach didn't let the reserves play in the last batting or inning (we started with fielding so should end with batting)...

here's a short story taken from
http://en.rocketnews24.com/2012/02/03/read-the-short-story-that-captured-the-hearts-of-japan/

The following is a translation of a short story originally taken from a 2008 book by Haruhiro Kinoshita and posted on a blog called One Minute Impressions. The story struck a chord with tens of thousands of people across Japan as it spread through social networks.
There Was This Cashier
She moved from the countryside to go to a university in Tokyo. She joined many extra-curricular activities but always got turned off quickly . One after another, she jumped from club to club looking for something better.
When it came time for her to find work, she got a job with a manufacturing company, but she couldn’t continue working there. Three months after starting she felt she couldn’t see eye to eye with her boss. It didn’t take long for her to quit.
The next job she got was for a distribution company. She worked there for six months but came to realize the job was different than she had hoped it to be. Shortly after, she quit.
From there she joined up with a company that manages medical statistics and information, but this too didn’t do it for her.
This job just isn’t for me.
As this pattern went on and on her resume became an ever-growing list of companies that failed to live up to what she expected from a job. The longer her resume got the more difficult it became for her to get a job, until finally it was impossible to find an employer willing to take a chance on someone unwilling to commit to any job. However, if she couldn’t work then she couldn’t live.
Her parents suggested she move back in with them, but she couldn’t slink back home like a dog with its tail between its legs.
She signed up with a temp agency, but she couldn’t even get through temporary work. Wherever she went, she would quit if she had the slightest problem. Her record of former employees grew faster with each temporary job she dropped.
One day, she received a new job offer through the temp agency. It was sent to all of the agency’s workers who were a flight-risk like her. The offer was working the checkout at a supermarket.
In these days supermarkets didn’t use bar codes. The cashiers had to type in the prices for all the items by hand. It took a bit of training, but after a week she had already gotten tired of typing into the register.
This is way too easy. I can’t keep doing this.
This time though, when she got that feeling she realized that she had already changed work a lot in her life. She had grown to dislike herself for not having the patience to hold a steady job. She had to continue working here.
Hang in there. This is your last chance.
However, as much as she tried, she couldn’t continue. She made up her mind to resign. Soon after, she received a phone call.
“It’s time for you to come home,” her mother said.
Hearing the warmth in her mother’s invitation through the receiver, she made her choice. She began to pack her belongings to return home. After that she would tell the supermarket she quit.
She had accumulated a lot of things in her long time in Tokyo. While putting her stuff into a cardboard box she found a notebook in the drawer of her desk. It was her diary from when she was a young. She used to always write in it. She remembered looking for it a while ago but thought it was gone for good.
Flipping through the pages she saw written: “I want to become a pianist.” It was her high school dream.
Back then I used to practice every day to become a pianist.
For some reason practicing piano was the one thing she could continue doing. Still, somehow, without her noticing, she had given it up. She compared those days of chasing her dream to her life now, and she became disgusted with herself.
What happened to the me that used to have hopes and dreams?
Her adult diary had become nothing but a long list of discarded employers. Rather than recording her dreams she was carrying a record of her half-hearted attempts and failures. She knew things weren’t going well but she didn’t realize how low she had sunk until then.
Look at me now, I’m running away from a stupid cashier job.
So she closed her diary and went to call her mother. “I’m going to stay here a little longer,” she said choking back the tears. She put aside her resignation and decided to go to work the next day forcing herself to be happy punching boring numbers into that boring register.
Just a few more days will be good enough to know for sure if I want to continue.
Doubt and excuses would sometimes slip into her thoughts.
When I studied piano, I would make mistakes again and again, but I kept at it until my fingers memorized the keys. After enough time, I could play the piano without looking at my hands.
Remembering those days she set a goal for herself.

Alright, I’m going to master that register like I did the Piano.
She studied the button combinations to hit for every item the supermarket sells. She committed the arrangement of the keys on the register to memory. Then she practiced.
After a few days she could type fast. Then she didn’t have to look at the register any more. Her attention began shifting to the customers.
Oh, that customer came yesterday too…
Her hand typed in the price of a dozen eggs by itself.
…only this time she brought her kids.
She could see a lot from her post now. It became her secret pleasure. Her fingers would dance across the register like a professional pianist’s would. As her eyes studied the people she began to notice more and more details about them.
Here’s Ms. Only-Buys-Things-On-Sale.

Well, if it isn’t Mr. Comes-Just-Before-Closing-Time.

Here comes The Honorable Lady Buys-Expensive-Stuff.

One day, ol’ Mrs. Buys-Things-Just-Before-Their-Expiration-Date came to her register, only this time carrying a fresh and expensive fish.
“What’s the special occasion?” she blurted out to the old lady in surprise.
Mrs. Buys-Things replied, “My grandson won an award for his swimming, we’re going to celebrate. It’s a nice fish isn’t it?”
“Yes, congratulations” she said, unaware she was gently smiling to Mrs. Buys-Things. This is when she found the pleasure of communicating with her customers.
After a while she had memorized all the customers’ faces and picked up some of their names. She started to help them with their shopping.
“Hi Mrs. Tanaka, you’re sure you want to buy this chocolate? We have some cheaper stuff over in aisle three today.” she said. “Also, you’d be better off buying chicken rather than fish today.”
And all the customers in her line appreciated it, thanking her as they went to rethink their choices. The more she interacted with the customers the more she enjoyed going to work at the supermarket.
One day, she had a feeling that it was busier than usual, but she kept to her work and enjoyed talking with all the customers who came through.
The manager came over the intercom; “We apologize for the crowds. Could customers please move over to the empty registers?”
A little later the speaker repeated, “Again, we ask you to please move to the empty registers.”
After a third announcement she looked up. As her hand typed in the price of three tomatoes she could see five other cashiers waiting by empty registers but all of the customers had formed a long line to hers only.
The manager rushed onto the floor and said to the customers, “Please, if you would just go to another register, you won’t have to wait.”
“Oh go away,” said Mrs. Ito who only buys milk in glass bottles, “the only reason I come to this supermarket is to chat with this young lady. I don’t want another cashier.”
Upon hearing that, she broke into tears.
Mrs. Ito continued “The other supermarket up the street is cheaper than here, but I come to talk, so if you’d be so kind, I’ll just wait here.”
At this point, she was crying so hard she couldn’t work the register. For the first time, she saw how terrific a job could make her feel.
It wasn’t long before she got promoted to checkout manager.
Now she continues to teach new cashiers the joys that are returned to you by putting care and enjoyment into your work and customers.

an idea

I've started the sports season. Futsal IPT  circuit at UIA (university Islam Antarabangsa) from 21st june to 25th june. Then go to UPM for team Masum (Majlis Sukan University-University Malaysia)<-just for government universities only. I will be playing Softball in the National Open till 1st July. Then head back to UM for centralised softball training for team UM till 12 july. 13 july -19 july would be in UTHM, Johor for Masum phase 2 for Softball under team UM.

Anyway, I had an idea yesterday...maybe in the future I wanna open a Sports Restaurant. The food menu would be strictly Athlete friendly, such as no chili and no ice in beverages. Maybe the menu item can be like "carbo loading for Ultra endurance athletes", "recovery food after high intensity sports", "weightlifting athlete's lunch" and "breakfast for chess players". Then maybe I can even expand to cater for sports events...especially since nowadays the catering for sports events are actually not athlete friendly, it's chili and spicy food like spicy fried meehoon.

To me, it seems ok but maybe the idea is not good in Malaysia since majority of the people LOVE chili and spicy food...maybe I can aim National Sports School and National Sports Institute or even work together to be official partner with Olympic Council of Malaysia (OCM).

Of cause I wanna work together with Sports Dietitian so that my food really suits and meets the optimum nutrients and calories needed by sports-specific athletes. Ultimately, taking sports nutrient to a higher level and perhaps making it a healthy food lifestyle in Malaysia and elevating sports performances.

Perhaps normal people would be curious and wanna try out the food and begin to understand how much do athletes actually sacrifice in training and in food and thus having a greater respect for athletes. Of cause, if possible I wanna make sports food also taste good and show athletes that sports food don't have to be boring  and restricted, I wanna show them the variety and creativity too.

But this is a bit funny since my philosophy has always been "FOOD IS FOR EATING, NOT TASTING", so I don't really have an opinion on food whether or not it is tasty or not. I don't even know how to cook fried eggs. In the end, it's just an idea which seems quite interesting and funny but somehow I doubt I would actually do it in the future...cause I don't know how to taste...perhaps I can call some friends who are food lovers to help me with that? LoL

end of sem 4

Exams was quite heavy.

The first paper APK was ok.

Economy and Marketing paper was kind of a stressful paper cause there was section A and B with each section worth 40 marks. In the last 15 minutes, then only I reached section B.

So, I had to write as fast as I could. It was crazy, only managed to write a sentence for each question. So I'm expecting a B for this paper.

Sports Facility paper went quite smooth although there was one panicking part whereby the lecturer uploaded another note for us at 12am when the paper was 8.30am, 8 and half hours later...haha. This time I had like 10 minutes to spare...So I looked around the hall and noticed that Dr Lim Boon Hooi had lied, there's no CCTV in the exam hall la..haha

HR, was the paper I studied the least. I think it was mostly common sense. I liked the exam hall today cause it was cold :)

Financial Management and accounting. We had to study 19 formula for financial analysis, 6 formula for time value of money, 4 formula for capital budgeting technique. On top of that, we had to memorize theories and find our own notes on 2 chapters. I borrowed books from the library, had a short group discussion with Ruhizam and then did my own notes all the way to 3am ish. I was afraid of sleeping during exam so I force myself to sleep although my mind was conscious and worried. hihi

Looking at the sky, I was thinking, is this very bad haze or is it cause I had not much sleep that my eyes are playing tricks on me?

I was waiting for the bus to head to the exam hall and wondered why it was taking so long, and why there was mostly girls only? Then suddenly the roads were alive again with traffic and a male coursemate shouted my name to greet me and he was on the motorbike heading back towards his residential college aka hostel. Looked at him and then i realized, "Oh, it's Friday la...Prayers, Mosque, so no bus till 2.30pm"...

I was thinking of cheating today, but my conscience told me, come on Mun, stop panicking, it'll be ok, you don't want to get caught or kick out of Uni...You can do it without resolving to cheating.

The exam paper looked do-able. I was thinking, should I do the theory first or the computing? Then I thought, I don't quite remember the formulas now, so as I go on, hopefully the formulas will pop in my mind..
I didn't use the table given for time value of money because the numbers were not clear (bad photostat quality) or my eyesight is bad? I used the manual way with my calculator and long working on paper. I sort of remember the formula but forgot what's the function of the formula..and got confused with revenue and income...Argh.. In the last 15 minutes then I had to answer 2 more computing questions, but thank God the computing wasn't too long so I managed to finish it up.

The lecturer was a bit grumpy today. He raised his voice and told me to quickly put the question into the answer booklet. Relax la bro, why the rush that you have to raise your voice? Make me feel like you gonna cut marks only? huhu

Masum softball selection camp

Last Thursday to Sunday, I went for the softball selection camp to represent MASUM (Majlis Sukan Universiti Malaysia or Malaysia Local Universities Sports council) it's like Local University level of MSSM.
I'm not so good in softball but God grace enabled me to make it to the team. Wow! To tell you the truth I'm the worse one there and somehow God working in mysterious ways allowed me to be in team. This means I will be representing all the local universities in Malaysia in the National Open Softball League.

When they said they had to drop one, no doubt it was me as the gap between me and all the other players is so huge, like a beginner and state players, me being the beginner.

I was thinking why my captain and my teammates were so worried when they heard that one player would be drop. I mean they were good and shouldn't worry of them being drop, obviously it would be me.
After the game, the captain explained to me, they were not worrying about them being dropped, but they were actually worrying for me...afraid that I will be dropped out.

Aww, and here I was thinking why are they so worried about themselves. Gosh, I felt touched, I guess it never crossed my mind that people will actually worry for me. That's what we call team camaraderie (loyalty and warm, friendly feelings that friends have for each other. )

Ok, next sports update is Futsal. I'm in the futsal team for UM (University Malaya)
we're having a futsal circuit at UIA soon, That's Universiti Islam Antarabangsa or International Islamic University Malaysia. So we to wear long sleeves or inners and long pants to tutup aurat. Malay girls are compulsory to wear tudung.

Today I wore a tracksuit and went for futsal training. Woah, my thighs felt like it was on fire and it had a very high fever, my face was red according to coach. All the heat trapped in the tracksuit. The material was light and sort of like a polyester or nylon with nettings inside. But heat trapping!  Just because it's light and looked breathable together with netting material inside and small netting on the side of the pants doesn't mean the pants will not trap heat...meaning it will trap heat. Don't be fooled by the pants appearance and material...hihi

Thank God I didn't face a dehydration or heat stroke...hihi.

Threaten my peace.

I wanna reason in moral and rational aspects first.

The front of Ms Ambiga's house was used by petty traders who claimed they made a huge loss during Bersih. So they sold BEEF and Chicken burgers as a sign of protest.

What makes things more interesting is that Ms Ambiga is a HINDU and a VEGETARIAN. They sold Meat and even offered the Meat burgers to her and they knew she was a HINDU and a vegetarian. Now that is morally wrong and it shows a very bad image of themselves as Malaysians.

Besides that, the butt exercise by the army veterans in front of her house is actually indecent. Why are our ex-army performing an immature behavior?

When this traders do business in front of Ms Ambiga's house, is the place strategic to gain back profit? Or are they making a bigger loss? Do they have licenses to open a food stall directly in front of a residential house?

Next, is the burning of her poster and requesting the government to strip her of her citizenship...Is burning her picture acts of a civilized generation? Besides that, what has she done to strip her citizenship?
Gerakan Kebangkitan Rakyat (Gertak) chairman Datuk Razali Idris, who led the peaceful demonstration, said the call was made as Ambiga was responsible for organising the illegal gathering in Kuala Lumpur which turned violent.
"The people cannot accept anyone who threatens national peace and security.
"We condemn Ambiga's action, which has become the source of disunity among the people in the country now.
"She is also a supporter of the LGBT (lesbian, gay, bisexual and transgender) group.
"Therefore, we urge the government to take stern action against her, including stripping her of citizenship. We don't want individuals like her to destroy the country."
Razali said as a follow-up, his group planned to organise a big public gathering if no action was taken against Ambiga.
"What we have done (demonstration) today is just the beginning. The next one will be a big gathering to be participated by various communities to ensure that appropriate action is taken against Ambiga."

Read more: Call to strip Ambiga of citizenship - General - New Straits Times http://www.nst.com.my/nation/general/call-to-strip-ambiga-of-citizenship-1.81704#ixzz1vyZJZWmf

Did she threaten national peace? She called the public for a Duduk Bantah and requested the crowd to leave about 2.30pm.

And I do wonder was the gathering still termed as a peaceful gathering if you burn something ? (GERTAK burning  her picture) When Mr Najib's picture was hang outside down, Mr Adam Adli was called by the police and almost expelled from university. This is burning a picture, so should a more serious action be taken? I also am wondering if someone burned Mr Najib's picture, will he/she be expelled from the country or be thrown into jail?

Mr Razali Threatening the authorities that he planned to organise a big public gathering if no action was taken against Ambiga.
Who now is destroying the country's image, Mr Datuk Razali?

Perkasa chief saying "If the Bersih rally is not cancelled... I believe the Chinese community will have to stock up on food."

Now that's a racist statement but why the Chinese community only? How about all the other races in Malaysia?

How about Mr Ahmad Ismail? His statement was racist, it caused racial disunity and for me-it threaten my peace...so should he also be revoked of his citizenship?
Ahmad Ismail was the Permatang Pauh UMNO division chief. Gerakan’s Acting President  was Tan Sri Koh Tsu Koon in September 2008. During a ceramah in Permatang Pauh on Aug 25, 2008 Ahmad Ismail was alleged to have said the Chinese were mere squatters or temporary residents of the nation and therefore, it was impossible to achieve equal rights amongst races in the country. At a meeting after Penang Gerakan’s reaction, Ahmad’s supporters tore up pictures of Koh.

Now, I remember that year..I was doing form (lower) 6 in SMK Sri Pantai whereby in from 1 to form 6, there was 1200 students but only 3 non-muslims (myself , Praveen and Pui Yee). In that school, the prefects purposely ask me "Kenapa tak tudung?" just for the fun of it. Every thursday, we had one whole period of assembly whereby there is a  bacaan ayat yasin. Everyday, there's a bacaan doa before every lesson starts.  And there was one time after school ended, there was reading the whole Al-Quran session which was compulsory even for non-muslims to join.

That whole week, I was afraid to go to school. Why? 1197 Muslim students and prefects that keep asking me "Kenapa tak pakai tudung", with the school's image of drug addicts, mat rempits and a very unsafe environment whereby your calculator and pencils will be stolen if you're not careful. Even when we enter the library, we fear that our shoes might get stolen. My school was a PAS area and many of the students had a kampung mentality. I always get eve-teased when I go up the stairs. I can't even complain to the discipline teacher as majority of the school boys did the same thing. It's a culture there, everyday as I go up those dreaded stairs to my class, every week without fail I will get teased, be it racist remarks or eve-teasing. Teased because I'm a Chinese, teased because I'm a girl, teased because I don't wear tudung. Walking to anywhere in that school and I would be exposing myself, even while walking out of school when school was over. Wherever there were guys, there could be some sort of teasing happening. The only safe ground for me was in class or in the library. I can't do anything because it was not just 1 boy but it was somewhat like an acceptable practice in SMK SP. Many guys do it all the time. Another example of the kampung mentality was during the sports day, We invited SMK Sri Hartamas and SMK Vivekananda for 4x100m and SMK SH won but  when they came to receive the medals, my school laugh at them because they were wearing shorts and it's "tunjuk aurat" wor. I felt really embarrassed on behalf of my school..
So, that's why I was dead scared to go to school in lower six.

When I was in Upper school, another incident cause me to be dead hesitant to go to school. The Molotov Bombing on churches in MALAYSIA.

So, should the prefect and boys in SMK SP have their citizenship revoked for threatening female student's peace and security? and causing racial disunity?

Common Knowledge

I strongly belief that it is common knowledge to do warm up before exercise and cooling down after exercises.
Even if you are not athletic or a sports man you already know it right? I believe even primary school kids know it.

But recently I met a 35+ old lady who said it's not common knowledge, it's something only elite athletes know, and this lady said she used to be a school athlete (super star) in basketball, specialized in scoring 3 pointer shots. But she doesn't really have a sportswomen somatotype(Body Shape).

I'm in the reserve navy while she was in the reserve army. Before any exercise, we would do warm up but according to her, they don't do warm up. Army do more physical activities than the navy wor.

After a while, I thought maybe it's generational gap. For example my generation all know how to use email, it's common knowledge while her generation, it's not common knowledge to know how to use the email.

Just like Singapore primary school mathematics for Primary 3. At first I was like "WHAT" but after that, I use rational and figured how to do it. Pretty easy.

Btw: Just in case you still don't know the solution to the first question. Here's the answer:  http://www.razor.tv/site/servlet/segment/main/news/76992.html

Another question was :
Ms Fong bought 12 teacups, 3 teapot and a tray. The price of a teapot is same as 3 teacups. The tray is $15 more than a teapot.
She paid a total of $ 159. How much is the price of 2 teacups and a tray?

Err, just in case you don't know the answer to the 2nd question. (left click after "It's" until the word "Although") It's $45 cause $6 +$6 + (3x $6 +$15)

Although the 2nd question is easy but I feel that it is a bit too high level for primary 3. huhu.

So, yeah, common knowledge changes as time passes. The new generation is in the technology era and is expected to know more. Even the primary school students now know how to operate the Ipad. Therefore we shouldn't insist that the newer generation should lower their level of education. That would be us preventing ourselves from developing. "Just bcoz I dono, so you shouldn't know" type of mentality.

-peace out-

boiling point of the lecturer

Today, my lecturer exploded aka blew up aka reached her boiling point. She was discussing and then after the discussion, a course mate's phone rang and he turn his head and answered his phone.

That class has (40 my batch, 5 senior) 45 students but less than 10 person were in class. It was already half an hour...after the phone incident, more and more people were showing up and majority were wearing slippers. Our HR class today was a 2 hour class, 1pm-3pm. Less than 10 people in class at 1pm, then at 1.25 pm about 12 person only.

After she gave an angry speech of us not respecting her, she just left the class and told us class will continue next week!

Actually it's our fault. First, my class doesn't respect the lecturers...we talk during class while the lecturer is teaching...and we talk OK, not even whisper. Secondly, we play with phone, laptop, iPad during class and many even sleep in class even though they sit nearest to the lecturer. Besides that, we tend to sit up far away from the lecturer, the first 5 row of chairs would be literally empty. We talk back to the lecturer quite rude. We wear slippers to class, some wear shorts. We come late to class, a  few rarely attend classes. Sometimes we just leave the class in front of the lecturers.

The phone guy said well at least he turn his head, that showed his "respect" what instead of answering the phone facing the lecturer. (Actually he could go outside then only answer the phone, or hold a book in front to cover the phone...) btw, the way he turned-> the lecturer could clearly see the phone and we all heard the phone ring...LoL.

The lecturer scolded uthat kita tak respect dia, datang kelas lewat lebih dari 30 min, pakai SLIPER, cakap masa dia cakap, phone tak silent. Dia cakap mungkin dia terlalu lenient sampai kita sangat rude (kurang ajar), no respect(tak hormat) and step on her head(pijak kepala)"

She had been tolerating it this whole semester. Twice a week (1 hour + 2 hour), about 8 weeks if minus add & drop week and mid-sem break. I guess she reached her boiling point!

She said she wont teach today and ask us to sign the attendance sheet.

This is the first time a lecturer MERAJUK lalu TAK NAK AJAR. This is proof that our condition is very terrible already. We need to change to improve our batch image...

Changes: Don't enter class too late, don't wear slipper during her class, if enter class late apologize to lecturer, if need to talk in class->try to whisper or write on paper.

What's MY fear now is we created a "HALO EFFECT", nobody will get an A for her subject. Just like my 2nd semester and my 3rd semester, there were lecturers who did not let anyone get an A. The highest was a B plus. Besides that, those lecturers don't have pedagogy, so they have plenty of information but do not know how to transfer it to us. Very terrible presentation skills and very bad teaching skills! It's like even if we attend the class, we don't know what the lecturer is trying to teach us even if we concentrate, therefore we grow frustrated and give up on coming to class or don't bother paying attention.

A different lecturer did a test recently and he said many of us were hanging on the border. (this proves how he fail as a lecturer, highest mark we obtained is 29/40 but majority got 19/40 in his test, that's also because some of us have background in that subject) but he said it is due to our laziness that we perform very terrible. He doesn't teach, he just mention the contents, then talk about himself and Islam and then moves on to the next slide. He got his degree from UIA (University Islam Antarabangsa).

Only a handful of us has background of the subject but he goes on like as though we know by heart all the contents and he is just informing us what to study. I did inform him that many of us do not have basics and do not understand what he "teaches" us in class, but he put the blames on us. "You'll are university students, go read books in the library or ask your friends from economy, finance, accounts and marketing studies to teach you"

In my heart, "then what's the use of us paying you? Better we 'employ' those friends to be our lecturer" Besides that, his assignments are so heavy that it takes most of our time away from us. Our friends are students ma, so they also got assignments and lectures to attend...

Haiz...

Easter

I thank God for my mandarin test results...95%, ranked 7th! Woohoo.. But it's not really something to be proud as I was the 2nd last person to hand in the paper. In addition to that, most of the answers were actually already on the paper...

I found out that Easter is actually more important than Christmas...you see, Christmas is the beginning of a hope, the birth of Jesus Christ, God in the form of man aka the son of God or God in human form, while Easter is the fulfillment of the hope or the hope becoming reality and not a hope anymore.

Good Friday was the Day Jesus suffered and died on the cross, paying the punishment for all our sins also known as wrongs. Why we call it good? Well, when Jesus paid the penalty of our sins that meant we now have a clean record with God, through Jesus. Jesus paid for the past sins, present and future sins. It's like our record of wrongdoings was wiped off and Jesus's perfect life record is what we have now.
Easter Sunday was the day Jesus fulfilled the prophecy that He will Resurrect also known as come back alive 3 days later.  That shows He won death and that we have a risen Savior. So, we believe Jesus is our jurupenyelamat and though Him we can come to God.

God is so holy that God cannot stand sin but God loved us very much. At the same time God is Just so God must punish sin. So you can see that we have a problem now right? Man is sinful, Jesus said if we even think of doing something wrong means we are already as guilty as committing the sin, If we hate someone means we already committed murder, that's how HOLY God is.
So God send Jesus to earth who live a perfect life, then took the punishment of our sins upon himself. In doing this, Jesus paid the penalty for our sins, remove God's wrath.

So, we can come close to God through Jesus.

my responses to a bad day

What do I do when I had a bad day?

I give silent treatment to everyone. Not really anymore...

I cry and then tell God. Not that frequent.

I cry myself to sleep

If it's a school thing then After school, I head to the field and
I run nonstop for at least 30 minutes (till my anger subsides)
longest 2 hours   O.o

I hide out at Dragon (secret hideout near school) and try to calm down.

If it's at home, I'll lock my room door and turn on the radio as loud as it can go. Well, that was at home.

Being in campus, I have to improvise. Use headphone and blast my phone radio or just use the laptop and blast fast songs or not play many songs at the same time.

In extreme cases, I write a letter of complain and think how to ruin the person's life...

5 mistackles and masum olahraga

It's been a really busy week and I do't think the week's gonna get any less busier this semester.
I have soooo much studies to catch up on since I've been rather busy with sports.

I had rugby 15 Singapore League a two weeks ago and then MASUM (Local University Sports) last week. This week would be MIEX (military exhibition) and pretty much all my weekends taken.

This year's singapore league was my personal worst performance. 5 mis-tackles in a row. This shows how much training I missed.

Masum Olahraga was at UTM, skudai johor. I was in 5km walking, relays and 3km running. I feel so frustrated as I got disqualified when I had only 2 more rounds to go. My walking technique needs some polishing. I was 4th position before I got disqualified. Argh, so close yet so far.

There was one UPSI girl who's a much better athlete than me but she was afraid of me because I beat/won her in Larian Pantai Sukan Masum previously. Well, track and sand/beach are different surfaces so just because I won her in beach run doesn't mean I'll win her in track run...Huhu

3km running was terrible, I got last.

4x100m relay, I caused the team 3 seconds lag because the change of baton and my running position was wrong due to the lack of practise and I was actually last minute replacement.

4x400m was not too bad, I boost the first 200 meters but then pancit the last 200 meters for the heats. Then in the finals for 4x400m I tried to follow Ling's advice of not boosting all the way so that I don't pancit...when I don't boost at the beginning I feel rather unproductive. But I also do not have the mental strength to speed up in the last few hundred meters.

Oh, a guy from USM came up to me and asked me if I was MUN FOONG, I was surprised. Then he said he was my junior from SKBB and SMKBB, same batch with Syahmi. His name is Ashraf. Erm, actually I don't quite know Syahmi, all I know about Syahmi is that he was a junior from primary school who had a crush on me and asked my younger bro for my msn id and Syahmi was sort of an athlete. After thinking for some time, I asked Ashraf "you are not an athlete right? Cause I know all my juniors who are athletes."
Yeah, he was not an athlete, he only started getting involved in sports after I left school. So, no wonder I do not know him.

Poor Darvin could have won gold for highjump but he dislocated his shoulders so just settled for 2nd place. His personal best was 1.9 meters but he got injured in 1.75 meters and the competitor went up to 1.85 meters.

Masum Management was late every morning and a bit unprofessional, they allowed athletes to run eventhough   one athlete was in disadvantage as the first lane had a pool of water whereas the other lanes did not have any patch of water. The event was 400m hurdles women, so the first lane runner was at an disadvantage and couldn't take steps to run and jump the hurdles. That's very unprofessional. I mean if all the lanes had a patch of water then it would be a fair disadvantage but if there's only a disadvantage to one athlete then it's really not fair. Everyone else can run and jump but the 1st lane has to try not to fall or slip and her momentum would have been disrupted as the speed and space would have been affected by the pool of water which was before the hurdle.

UTM skudai was a really nice and huge university, the rooms were very comfortable and toilets were tip top, The food were cheap, tasty and  in big portions. The only flaw was the internet connection which was much worse than UM's wifi.

It was nice to see Cameelia and Fast from YTAR at UTM. So, group 4 were just missing Mai and Jane...huhu.

Besides that, My laptop has been acting quite strange last week. I think it may be infected...

Mandarin class

YTAR(Yayasan Tunku Abdul Rahman) camp at Melaka.

Kinda busy doh...After my final exam last sem, Palapes naik pangkat, a very rushed CNY, Hardcore Palapes training with 3 hour sleep for at least 11 days. Choir camp with so much to catch up on. After the Palapes and choir camp, Catch up and reply to all the scholarship news and scholarship assignment as well as registering for new semester. Mandatory Scholarship camp for BTAR (biasiswa Tunku Abdul Rahman) made me miss 3 classes. Coach Jeff asking me when am I going to come for training? Aduh, How to go for training when I have classes on Mon to Wed 6pm-9pm? It seems like I will not be able to go for trainings on Tuesdays or night training.

Whoa, the future BTAR recipients has more pressure as they need to maintain 3.75 CGPA.

Leadership and a greater understanding of Tunku Abdul Rahman's personality and TAR's leadership qualities were the content of the camp with the theme of "The Tunku I Knew"

The Pledge we created:
With pride and honour,
WE solemnly swear,
To serve the king and country with utmost loyalty,
To protect the land and sovereignty of Malaysia,
To uphold ideals of justice, liberty and unity,
To become the living heart and soul of TUNKU ABDUL RAHMAN,

As Tunku Scholars,
WE shall be the change we want to see,
And so,
With remembrance for the past and with confidence in the future,
Under the providence of God,
WE shall succeed

I became MC(Master of Ceremony) during the YTAR camp for one of the activity...Facing my fear of MC-ing.

This semester I have to take English Presentation as English for Academic Purpose is not offered in this Sem...sad la. There's a girl who failed English Presentation and is repeating the course...aduh...Why la, no choice?

Yesterday I receive confirmation email from the KONG ZI institute, UM that I am accepted into the Elementary Mandarin Language class.

Today at the Mandarin class, I was surprised to see one of my lecturer in my class. Whoa, can you imagine being in the same class with your lecturer as a student also...so, when we have mid term exam, even my lecturer will be studying..LoL. Chinese is very tough because even if you know how to speak doesn't mean you know how to read. The pronunciation and writing are 2 separate systems. This is very different with English.

What I mean is in English you learn the alphabets then you can read or pronounce any word. But the chinese strokes does not show how to pronounce. There are many Ancient language which have come to extinction but Chinese is one of the oldest language which is still surviving now. Cool right? The Best student will be sent to Beijing. (Fully Sponsored by the Kong Zi Institute, UM).

Kong Zi Institute UM is a institute whereby China send teachers to teach Malaysians the Chinese Language. The number of students they will accept are very limited. Originally, the Elementary Mandarin Language Course is RM 810 but the first 100 students will only have to pay RM 500.

I enrolled in this course because I am a Chinese who is not able to speak her mother tongue, I would like to go back to my roots by learning Mandarin. Besides that, being able to understand the Mandarin language would allow me to communicate with others, especially other Chinese people who are weak in English and Malay. In the other states peninsular Malaysia, it is widely stereotyped that most urban KL Chinese people cannot speak Mandarin. I would like to proof this stereotype wrong especially since I am a Tunku Scholar. I want to proof that Tunku Scholars are not only academically competent but Tunku Scholars are also people who are proud of their heritage and will not forget their roots.

As a Malaysian, the language most used in Malaysia is Mandarin after the English and Malay language and so by enrolling in this course I would gain an extra advantage by knowing Mandarin especially since we are in this competitive and educated society whereby everyone has the same level of education. At the moment, there are some jobs which put Mandarin as a prerequisite to be qualified for the job due to the fact that most of their customers or clients are Chinese. As a Tunku Scholar, learning Mandarin would enable me to communicate better with people especially those in the Management sector.

eyes, attitude n marks...

I guess something is wrong with my eyesight...
when I first open a book and look at the white page, my left eyes kinda see a blur white ball shape for about the first 10 seconds. After that, it's ok...

Yesterday when I entered Pusat Sukan, everything seemed to dim and someone called my name, I couldn't see him, only the figure of a body until he came like 2 steps away from me then only I could see him.
Today also at the same place, someone else called me. Same prob, the hallway seemed dim and all i could see was a figure waving at me and when she passed by me then only I could see her...

Maybe my eyes was not adjusted efficiently as I was from outside under the sun and pusat sukan is not lighted up...Kinda like the effect when you walk into a dark room from a bright room. Perhaps my eyes takes longer time to adjust...

I feel sad because majority of my classmates got A but I got an A minus.  Argh, people who are not really good in academic get better results than me...WHY!!! We were in the same group and yet they got higher marks than me...

I'm such a sore loser...my attitude is bad and being too Kiasu will make lecturers hate you. Please clean up your personality Mun! You should stop thinking that you're better than everybody else in the world. It's really terrible.

Sometimes I do wonder, are we graded on our attitude, first impression or our answer sheet?

ACT kdsi 1

You people must be wondering whether I abandoned this blog right?
Well, so after the exams which brought the semester 3 to the end. I had Palapes Laut Kenaikan Pangkat. NO more senior cadet but now a Junior Midshipment. Then of cause was Chinese New Year which was quite packed this year, visiting so much that we didn't have much time to socialise. After that was back to University for Palapes Annual Continuous Training (ACT). This was a combined ACT with all the other local universities in Malaysia which has Palapes Laut. 8 uni all together.

University Malaya (UM, Kuala Lumpur)
Universiti Putra Malaysia (UPM, Selangor)
Universiti Teknologi Mara (UiTM, Selangor)
Universiti Sains Malaysia (USM, Penang)
Universiti Malaysia Terengganu(UMT, Terengganu)
Universiti Malaysia Pahang (UMP, Pahang)
Universiti Utara Malaysia (UUM, Kedah)
Universiti Teknologi Malaysia (UTM, Johor)

Our training was about 2 weeks at Kapal Diraja Sultan Idris (KDSI 1) aka Royal Malaysian Naval College, Lumut, Perak.
We were tahap satu (level one) trainees, while our seniors were level 2 trainees.

Our seniors made us shine our drill boot in the bus throughout the journey to KDSI 1.
When we reached there, we mustered then fill up forms and  muster and off to our rooms to clean our cabins(our rooms are called cabins). Muster. Briefing at night (no dinner provided as training wasn't officially started). I'm in Thana Alpha division, tahap satu and on hijau satu watch/awasan. 31 of us in Thana Alpha Tahap satu,

A normal schedule would be:
4.45am  Early Morning Activity (EMA) [jogging, jumping jack, push up, buffer, sit up and ect]
6am breakfast
Morning class
stand easy(snack time)
Class or Marching
Lunch
Class
3pm EA (Evening Activity) [Run, jog]
tea
preparation for night round
dinner
8pm Night round
11 ish pm supper
12am pipedown, [light out and no movement allowed but of cause we curi-curi shine shoe, iron baju, bath or wash clothes as quiet as we can, study.]

As tahap satu we are under ALPHA ROUTINE. This means run when we are under the sky.

Basically the whole camp was filled with
muster,
count strength,
change rig (uniform),
mess etiquette (eating square ie asking permisssion for everything, waiting for everyone to get food, permission to sit down, permission to eat, eat with fork and spoon quietly, eat with hand raising up spoon to mouth level then bring spoon to mouth in square position.),
constantly ironing clothes, shining shoe,
cleaning room and preparing for night rounds (no dust, standardized arrangement for everything eg. clothes type and folding, hanger color, curtain and every layout, reporting, toilet must be dry, clothes must be color, non-palapes things must be hidden from sight, bedsheet and everything must be neat and exactly same).

Class about navy communications(terms, Morse code, radio communication), seamanship (knots), damage control and fire fighting, core values, general navigation, international rules for preventing collision at sea, weaponry, marine engineering.

No time to rest, everyday maximum hour of sleep is 4 hours. With a mean time of 3 hours of sleep for 12 days, most of us only remember feeling sleepy throughout the training.

Fighting the sleepy feeling, Muster, Run and gobbling food in 5 minutes
made up at least 90% of the what we did.

Exam was hard as there were many things to memorise and a major portion whereby we have not learn yet.
Most of the lesson instructors did not know how to deliver the teachings well. 60% to pass or not next year we have to repeat the paper. Thank God, some instructors helped us out during the exam...huhu.

KDSI was kind enough to let non-muslim go out to church, buddhist temple, hindu temple eventhough they had some misunderstandings...LoL

The Christians were chinese and Bumi but we were sent to a Tamil church and so non of us understood anything. LoL

The Buddhist were sent to Hindu temple. LoL, I guess Malay Islam people don't understand that Tokong and Kuil are 2 different temples.

This is the first time I was scold by an officer because I'm too Lurus Bendul.

It was a really multicultural festive month.
Chinese New Year
Chap Goh Meh
Maulidur Rasul (Nabi Muhammad birthday)
Taipusam

Another activity we did was sailing, well, not really sailing but visiting the Malaysian Royal Navy Battle ship and entering a Malaysian Royal Navy multi purpose command and support ship (mpcss) and watch the training when there is an air threat at the sea. The ship sailed from Markas Armada to Pulau Pangkor and Pulau Jarak and back to Markas Armada, Lumut. We were on Kapal Diraja Sri Indera Sakti. We are not to post up pictures taken in the ship as it is rahsia negara. If other country see then they know our weapons, layout and operation thus we will be vulnerable. O.o

So, here's a pic of the ship with us on it, just the outside.

The weather at KDSI 1 was terrible scorching hot. Just stand 1 minute under the sun and we were sweating like pigs, literally wet like asthough we jumped into a swimming pool. And we didn't have any water cooler or water filter, thank God we didn't die of dehydration. My uni had 4.5 liters of water and a 100plus 1.5 liter bottle to survive for about 12 days.

The training at KDSI 1 was not as torturous as our previous ACT at KDSK last year. :)

OK, now some of you know that I have been trying to quit PALAPES a long time already, since 1st semester but was unsuccessful.

Malam Mesra we had standing ovation from all the audience , our presentation was the most proper and matured presentation compared to most of the others who did quite moral degrading skits but we somehow did not get any position. LoL. Whatever la. One team had 2 places ie 7th place and 2nd place. I really wonder how is that possible...haha. Malaysia Boleh, Navy Palapes Boleh.

I thought If I fail the exam here then maybe I can use it as a reason but I think I pass the exam la.
Hmm, so I'm already half year there, after June, my 4th semester is over and I'll be senior Midshipment already and then another year and I'll be a Subby (officer). I've already spend was wasted so much money on this Palapes and to get back the money I spend is highly not going to happen. So should I continue on as I'm already half way there or should I drop out now? I'm in between, just at the line of no turning back. Myself is telling me to quit but my other self is telling me that Since I've so close the finishing line, why not continue all the way?

God in Ancient China

Chinese New year is New Year in the Chinese Calendar...Not really a religious celebration but just celebrating NEW YEAR like the 1st of January la...hence the word Chinese New Year.
It's a culture/budaya thing not a religion thing.
So YES, every CHINESE in the world celebrates it eventhough they are not Buddhist or Taoist. Yes, that includes Chinese Christians celebrate CNY too ok.

But anyway, people think that Christianity is a Western Religion, People think Chinese Christians are forsaking their roots...watch the video...

Gov conspiracy

Today when I read the news that there were 2 bomb explosion during the FREE ANWAR CAMPAIGN, immediately I thought of an article that I was reading just a few days ago as a preparation for my Sports Media exam paper.

1968, students on the Tlatelolco square in Mexico had a protest and the government massacred the protesters just a few weeks before the Olympic. The interesting thing was that the government was the one behind the massacre but claimed that it was the students that started the shooting.
Many years later it was revealed that the Olympic Brigade that was made up of special forces of the presidential guard were the ones to provoke the massacre by shooting the government soldiers...

O.o
Kinda like the fiction novel Angels and Demons by Dan Brown where the Vatican leader was the one that posed as the Illuminati (secret community which is killing vaticans) in order to make people more religious...Meaning he injured his own people and bluff the community so that they be more faithful and passionate in the religion...

protests and extrinsic factors

I don't know much about protest and all but as a University student, I suddenly have many chances to be involved in this protest and of cause even if I wanted I wouldn't take part due to my scholarship agreement. The ironic part is, I find out about all these protest through the UM portal and emails from the UM admin which sends us a prohibition email and wallposts to NOT join the protest.

Why do I find that ironic? Well, when they tell us NOT to join the protest...it is there that some of us find out "Oh, there's a protest coming soon". LoL, I mean if they didn't post or email us then lesser people will know about the protest right? In a way, the UM authorities are actually indirectly promoting the protests...huhu.

next topic- new year.
It's 2012 and I quite dread it as I'm starting it with stuffs like EXAMs and Palapes Laut training.
Last year (2010), a friend asked me to join the Borneo marathon and I immediately said Yes without thinking.
Now after sometime, I weight the factors and kind of regret it. I mean just to fly to Kota Kinabalu, Sabah would be about Rm 200 single way. That's Rm 400 for two ways, and then the registration is rm65 for early birds. On top of that, I have to think How am I going to the airport(KLIA) and How much am I going to spend on food.

That's like about RM500 just for a run? The prizes and goodie bags are not that great too. The prize is till 5th place (so not achievable for me)
To me, it seems like there's not much extrinsic factors to weigh out the cost I am about to use. NOT WORTH it. I am like, come on, spend half a thousand for a normal run, if I do it in KL, there will be better goodiebag and the prizes are more worth it and don't have to fly there.
I rather save that RM 500 to pay back PTPTN or sponsor a child's education with Care Channels or use it for rugby tournaments.

I don't have enough passion or interest in this event to spend so much money. Many of my coursemates, palapes mates can testify that I am very caution with my money spending.

But the problem now is how do I say NO to a promise I already made? How can I FFK?(fong fei kei, literally 'fly an airplane' which means break my promise)

Another thing about last year. I regret that I tried to help this postgrad student in his research. He was in such a stalking mode and inquire many personal information and of cause I immediately realised this is not his research related and then ignored him. It's either some kind of cultural shock that I'm facing since he's an American or this master's student is a really weird stalking-ish person.

Adam Adli and double standards

Adam Adli was my scout leader in secondary school. Just recently his name appeared in the national newspapers.
What he did? he lowered a flag bearing our prime minister's image.
What happened next? Government wants apology, Adam Adli and family received death threats and are harassed.

So, I'm wondering is our prime minister's image very sacred? It is as though Najib (our prime minister) is more powerful and sovereign than our Agong (king). Adam did not bring down the Malaysian flag or desecrate it. What was his action compared to grown-up Umno men stomping on Penang CM Lim Guan Eng's photo and bringing a coffin to his office or the Perkasa goons who burnt Bersih coordinator S Ambiga's picture.
What actions were taken by the government and home minister on those cases? Hmm, almost nothing!

Hmm, such double standards don't you think?
How about the cow head incident by Perkasa. It was clearly a racial insult but the police and government did not take action against them, instead the Home Minister (Hisyamhuddin) defended the Perkasa protesters as their freedom to voice out BUT the police force and the government arrested people holding a peaceful candlelight vigil and singing Negaraku to protest against corruption. The reason Home minister provided was "we have freedom to voice out but not freedom to riot"

Again I wonder and can't understand how the Government can say that Riot is defined when you have a peaceful protest with candles. But if you hold a cow's head and shout racial insults and step on the cow head, it is not Dangerous nor Sensitive. It's just a peaceful gathering which is challenging other beliefs and provoking the other religion's sacred and holy object. I am really confused with what the government term as Dangerous and Peaceful, and Riot. What exactly is sensitive? Is it taunting other religions or is it protesting against injustice?

advanti

The gospel message by advanti ministry.

Christmas eve

So I have been really busy with sports, assignments and choir throughout this month, I took a break from rugby and church.
I didn't plan to attend church but Manami, the student exchange girl from Japan that Sheng introduced to me wanted to attend church or Christmas celebration/party. So I had to go to church...

It's good to see so many new and young people in church but I can't believe that I have been spending so much time in church these few days. Like my whole day spent with the church (people).

What is Christmas without Christ? The point of Christmas? The reason we celebrate it? Christmas isn't christmas till it happens in your heart.

One story Francis shared today.
There was a fire and a man and his son were in the building. The dad jumped down and then told his son to jump. The son said he was afraid. There was fire and smoke everywhere that the son couldn't see the father. The son said "I can't see you, dad.". The dad replied, just jump son, you may not see me but I can see you. Just believe and jump, I'll catch you.

Just like GOD, we may not be able to see Him because of the fire and smoke but that shouldn't be the reason to not believe that the Father can save us. We may not be able to see God but God can see us. So, just believe and take the leap of faith. Put your trust in Him.

The sketch today reminded me that we often celebrate Christmas without Christ.

Makan
Alcohol
Shopping

Christ
Meaning of Christmas
Answer to our root problem
Salvation

A joke:
"How are you gonna spend your Christmas Eve?"
"Oh, I think I'll buy Christmas Adam" ...huahauhauahua. Lame or not? Original joke from me :)
